[Ham-Linux] LINUX and Core Duo processor

Is this processor able to run LINUX? Just tried booting on Puppy,
Mepis, and Knoppix CDs and not one of them will boot. They all start to
boot, but then just seem to lock up. I know these CDs worked before, but
just got this PC. It has the Core 2 Duo at 2.0 Ghz with 1G of RAM. Will
be happy to provide more info if needed.
My plan is to add a second hard drive to this computer next week,
and set up a dual-boot system, with LINUX on the second drive. I know
this will be a loaded question, and I'm really not trying to start a
flame war, but when would be the best LINUX flavor to use for this,
considering.....
1. Ease of installation. I've done this only once before, and not with
two drives.
2. Ease of use - that is, ability to find and load ham related programs
into the system
Thanks for any and all help!
