No, and no.  It's part of an agreement a couple of years back that for
a substantial pay increase, many of us would take technology courses. 
This is the first, it appears a networking certification will be next. 
The reason for A+ is that by having a good portion of us techs
certified, our vendors will allow the company to perform its own
maintenance and warranty work on its computers.  We can often provide
more timely and accurate service than a vendor tech that must drive a
few hours or more to reach one of our sites.
