A previous posting on this list pointed to
http://hamlib.sourceforge.net/
it has drivers for at least some Yaseu rigs.
Some time ago I reverse-engineered the cloning protocol of my Icom T8A.
The general process, which in theory will work for many radios, went
somthing like this:
- realize that the clone data in/out was the "ring" of the
3.5mm tip-ring-sleeve earphone jack
- hook an osciliscope up to this jack, trigger the radio's clone-send
function, and determine that data came out. Looking closer at the scope,
determine what the polarity and voltages are, and that the data was
it was 9600bps async, 8 bits, one stop, no parity.
- Breadboard an appropriate level converter from the clone-cable to RS232
- write a simple program to capture these data dumps to a file and send
them back out on command
- confirm that sending a data-dump back to the radio restores its
settings
- Make small changes to the radio's settings and memory contents, and
capture a data-dump after each change. Study the differences between
data-dumps along with notes of what setting you changed until the format
makes itself clear.
