[Ham-Linux] Kpsk

I posted this on the Qrp-L list and someone pointed me to this list so 
here goes.

I've a new (to me linux box ) that I want to use for Psk 31.  I've 
loaded it with Red Hat 8.0 and everything except the networking with my 
Windows box ( thats another story) is working .. I down loaded KPSK and 
did the config and Make and it istalled great.. got it up on the desktop 
  so one click will take me to it. But I can't get it to work properly. 
  The water fall works but the amount of band spread id very limited all 
the signal are very small and on the left hand side of the display. 
when I click on a signal I get just random jibberish for out put in the 
text window.  no deceriable text.  When I try to trans mit  nothing it 
will key the rig but no signal out put from the sound card.  Any 
suggestions where to start would be appreciated.  Also will have to get 
a real modem for the box since the winmodem that came with it does not 
work. (haven't as yet found any linux drivers for it any way.. )
