Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I checked in and just happened to see this message
after browsing through 1600 messages posted on other HAM lists I'm subscribed
to that I haven't checked since July.

You may have received (or heard about) this notification from Yahoo!. Much
like many other e-mail providers, they've switched to a more secure
authorization and handling system that requires an updated e-mail client. I
don't use the Yahoo app and have multiple devices connecting via IMAP (such as
my cell phone, tablets, Microsoft Outlook, etc) and I've had to do the
delete/re-add the account thing multiple times...more so because I have
multiple e-mail accounts with Yahoo (actually, with my ISP, AT&T - but they
contract out the e-mail to Yahoo). I thought I had everything covered, but in
the past 2 weeks, I received notices that two of my Yahoo e-mail accounts were
still being accessed by a non-compliant app and to switch to a compliant app
by Oct 20, 2020. I have a feeling the non-compliant app is the native Samsung
e-mail app on one of my tablets, but I can't figure out which. I guess I'll
find out tomorrow (or a bit later) when I notice that some device isn't
picking up e-mails from the two Yahoo accounts in question.

TL;DR
So, to answer your question, if you have any Yahoo e-mail accounts, Oct 20,
2020 is the day that older, non-compliant e-mail apps will no longer work with
the Yahoo e-mail system unless you...

1) Use the Yahoo app,
2) Use a newer, compliant e-mail app, or
3) configure a one-use password specifically for that device via the Yahoo
e-mail security page for generating said one-use password.

The e-mail I got from Yahoo referenced this webpage for help:
  https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop/SLN15241.html

And, for more info about the "OAuth" authentication, here's the Wikipedia
article...

73 and hope everyone is doing well!

My main email address is still WA5CAB at cs.com. .Has anyone else heard about a
supposedly pending change on AOL.com or CS.com because Oathe bought them or
something similar to that. The change will supposedly lock out anyone not
using their Cloud email service but still using a 3rd party mail manager to
periodically log into their server and download all new mail?? Unless you
delete your log-in and re-establish it. This certainly seems like something
that they would do to cause trouble but all message supposedly from them have
been addressed to "Member" or other generic salutations. The drop-dead date
is supposedly the 20th. I have called their support number two or three times
but I don't have a lot of faith in them not even knowing that this is going
on. And their English isn't much better than my Arabic, Indian or Farsi.
