[Ham-Computers] Converting VHS Video To DVD Format

Hi All,

I have several dozen commercial VHS tapes that I purchased some years ago. I 
would like to transfer them to a DVD medium. However, I am not allowed to do 
so because of copyright protection coded onto the indexing of the VHS tape.

I am told that all I need to do to get around this annoyance is to copy the 
VHS video onto the computers HD. Then use software to convert the file to a 
DVD. Can it really be that easy?

I know that some of you computer wizards have had to deal with this issue 
already, so I am asking for your suggestions and guidance gentlemen. How 
does the blind guy convert the copy protected VHS tapes into the DVD format?
