[Ham-Computers] Ham apps in Linux [Was: 64 bit v 32 bit question(s)]

Although scanners are not specifically "Ham", many of us own them,
and I will grant that Linux apps for scanners can be a challenge
to acquire - usually for the same MS-driven proprietary reason as
in other non-Ham area - manufacturers hire inept programmers who
can only handle MS-code and then refuse to provide adequate detail
to enable Linux *volunteers* to develop apps.  It is kinda dumb,
since there are 10's of millions using Linux (and the number is
growing exponentially - and they are potential customers), but
there it is.  :-/
