[Ham-Computers] Backup/restore help

Due to a very stupid mistake I just lost all data on my HDD. 

I thought 'no problem' because I had used MS backup to backup up the Win7 Pro system; now, when I try to restore the system, it goes through the backup process but when it finishes I only have the newly installed Win7 system on the computer.

Before the restoration I had re-formatted the HDD. . . . 

I have tried two different backups with the same NG result.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
