[Ham-Computers] Can't install MSDAC 2.53 for Windows 2000 Pro

I have a Dell Latitude C600 running a licensed CD of Windows 2000 Pro,
SP4 that came with the laptop.

I went through a plethora of updates from the SP4 CD that I have, but
there's one update that won't install:  Microsoft Data Access
Components 2.53.

Whenever I try the update, I get the message, "Security Update for MS
Data Access Components 2.5 SP3 (KB927779) not installed".

I went directly to the Microsoft website and downloaded the file, but
when I tried to install it I got the message, "Update could not
identify the installed product version.  The installation may be
damaged."

As I mentioned at the start, the CD I used to (re)install Windows 2000
Pro is the one that came with the laptop, and I am the original owner.
 So I don't understand why the installed product version could not be
identified.

All functions and features of the laptop and software seem to work
perfectly.  I want to sell the laptop, but not with this one small
flaw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
