[Ham-Computers] Computer Clock Problems

OK, time for me to ask for some help.

For the last month or so, I have had a problem with my HP Pavilion laptop,
model DV 8000 in that it will not keep the correct time. When I shut it
down at night and start it up again in the morning, it comes up with the
internal time as the time when I shut it down. OK, I took that to mean that
the internal CR2032 battery had expired. I took it apart and replaced that
battery. That did not make any difference with my problem. I checked the
removed battery and it still read 3.00 Volts.

Now besides that problem, I have been noticing that even with the computer
ON and on External Power, occasionally it loses time. Have not been able to
determine if that is gradually or all at once. It appears it happens all at
once and looses anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or so at a time.

Can anyone shed some light on my problem and lead me in the right direction
as to what I should do to resolve the internal clock problem.

No, sending it back to HP is NOT an option. This laptop is no longer under
warranty and while it was under warranty, it went back to HP three times for
touch pad problems which they never fixed. They finally wore me out and I
learned to live with that problem which was just an annoyance but the laptop
still worked otherwise. That taught me from the Warranty Service that HP
provides its customers, I would never buy another HP computer... Besides
then never fixing the problem, they never even responded to my phone calls
or email problem requests until I contacted the President of HP! From then
on, I seemed to have concerned managers call me but still never resolve my
problem..
