[Ham-Computers] HP LaserJet 4 Printer Problem

Every so often, I have printing problems. Initially, a blank sheet
is provided with every print job. Since the heat distorts the paper
increasing the chance of a paper jam, I have plenty of clean scratch
paper. Later, the printer stops printing. Everything seems ok from
the computer end, but nothing is printed and the printer symbol
remains in the system tray.
My only solution has been to return to an earlier "image" file I make
for backup. Since the image works, I know it isn't a hardware issue.
I use the LaserJet 4 printer with three older Dell Computers running
Win XP. I run a parallel printer cable from the printer to a Belkin
F1U115E automatic switch. One output of this switch is used for one
computer and the second output goes to a long cable across the room
to a second switch, and the outputs of this switch connect to the
other two computers.
I use the parallel printer port with one computer. and USB to
parallel printer adapters for the other two computers (it's a long
story). The adapter resembles a cable with appropriate connectors at each end.
When I initially set up the printer, I used the HP LaserJet 4 drivers
provided by Windows.
Presently, I can print using two of the three computers one using a
USB adapter and the other the parallel port.
I decided I had a corrupted printer driver, so went to the HP
site. A driver is available, identified as HP LaserJet 4, 5, 6
PostScript Driver. Do all LaserJet 4 printers use PostScript? The
printer was given to me years ago, and originally was in the office
of a small company, so I don't know what options it may contain.

I use the same printer with three computers, all older Dell's running
Win XP (pro on two and standard on the third). They are connected to
the printer using USB to printer connector adapters, and two Belkin
F1U115E automatic switches. At this time I can't print with one of
the printers.
