Although there apparently is a partition management function built into Windows 7, for the rest of us, minus Win98SE and Win95B users that have much older versions of partition managers available, the EASEUS Partition Master is excellent. It's freeware and highly respected.
My XP laptop has a 100 GB hard drive, 80 GB of it in C:\ and 20 GB in D:\. The D:\ originally contained a stripped down version of an image program. I wondered whether the D:\ and its contents was more for the benefit of the computer manufacturer to restore faster than my use of the CDs that came with the computer. I bought the laptop for me to use, not for the convenience of the manufacturer.
Because I use Eazy Backup weekly or more often (see www.ajsystems.com and while you are there take a look at Print Screen Works) I decided to delete the D:\ NTFS (21.86 GB), and also on D:\, a FAT 32 (4.64GB), and a chunk of Unallocated (7.84 MB).
Then, I "grew"the C:\ drive by the amount to be reclaimed from the deletions in D:\. Now I have nearly 100 GB in C:\.
EASEUS did this effortlessly, **and** I did this work without affecting the existing data on the C:\ drive.
When you go to: http://www.partition-tool/personal.htm you will download epm.zip file from one of five download facilities. I uses Download 1. For the above, I used V5.0.1 Home Edition, but I think 5.5.1 Home Edition is now current.
