Because they can't really help and they think that what works for them
will work for everyone.

I don't frequent car forums but can you imagine if someone asked a
question about a Chevy and then someone else piped in and said "You
should buy a BMW, blah blah blah..."

BTW, I think "your" response was well thought out and "informative"
