Paul:  I don't know what desktop is installed. The install program 
didn't give a choice.  Can I look somewhere to find out, or maybe 
Mike could tell you since he is also using Ubuntu.  Otherwise, I'll 
go to a Ubunutu forum and ask.  Regarding HAL, I don't know what it us.
