The problem has been solved!

When I looked at the dump of the STOP 000000f7 error message I found that 
the problem was caused by the file "vetfddnt.sys", which is a part of CA 
Internet Security Suite software.

When I removed the option to scan the floppy disk the problem went away.

Strange thing is that I have never had a problem with CA ~ until I installed 
the remote desktop software, that is; so, it was not a MS problem after all, 
but something with the CA software.

WHEW!!!!

Now, after almost a week screwing with this I can get back to setting up my 
garage workbench. . . .
