Always has. That is why you have so many antivirus software
manufacturers. It is a full
time job trying to hold Windows together.

Not unless you have the time and willingness to learn how things in
Linux operate. It is
different.

If you have an original XP install disk, then just insert the cd into
the cd drive and reboot.
This will bring you to a black screen stating to hit any key to boot
from cdrom. Hit any key.
A blue screen will load the rest of windows into memory and proceed to
search for existing
installs. It should ask you if you want to repair the existing install
or install from scratch, so
to speak. Choose the repair existing install. This will reinstall
everything in the windows directory.
It should not touch personal data in the Documents and Settings
folder, but I would back up
any data in there just incase. Doing this you should only loose
windows os system files. This
includes any updates to the os and os specific apps (IE, OE). This
will require a lengthy time
at the Windows update website. Be prepared.
