It's not usually `those' sites.  It's the innocuous ones.

You can do an install over the existing system without losing anything. 
  Tell it to install right where the existing system is.  It will 
caution you.  It will leave your settings in place, although it might 
not do much to solve your problem.  It will clean up some of the crud 
though.
