By request, here are links to messages I posted on HP's support forum concerning driver load order. I also posted one of these links to the list last week.

Modify the driver list as needed for your particular system, but try to keep the load order the same. The load order is as recommended by a Compaq hardware engineer when we were trying to isolate some problems with several M700 laptops. But the info is pretty much valid across all systems. Above all else, the chipset support should be the absolute *first* driver installed after installing Windows. Without the chipset support, some devices may not work or even show up.
Check your hardware vendor's website for drivers before using "reference" drivers. Sometimes, the hardware vendor makes changes to the reference design and the reference drivers may not work or might not enable some function that's configured differently. An example of "reference" drivers would be the drivers provided by the manufacturer of the particlar device's chipset (such as Intel, Nvidia, ATI, AMD, Broadcom, etc) as opposed to the device manufacturer (such as ASUS, Gigabyte, BFG, VisionTek, Linksys, Netgear, etc).
