Dave,

If you (or a program that requires it) installed any flavor of the .NET
Framework, then you'll have an ASP.NET user account. The account only as
"guest" level permissions and doesn't allow interactive or remote logins.
It's used to run .NET scripts when needed.

You can generally safely remove the account if you're not running a local IIS
webserver. However, keep in mind that some applications utilize webpages as
the front end - for example, the "Beyond TV" PVR software I use runs a
webserver and all the settings are done via a browser. If the app's web
server uses .NET, then it may not work properly if you remove the ASP.NET
user.

So, delete it if you feel you must, but I'd just leave it alone.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] ASP.NET - user account on my PC?????

Just looked at the user accounts on my computer, and see that in
addition to my Administrator account, there is a user identified as
"ASP.NET" and listed as "Machine A...'s account".

I sure didn't add this user to my machine (intentionally), and a Google
of ASP.NET tells me it's something to do with Microsoft.

Can anyone tell me if this in on the level and normal, or have I been
hacked somehow?

The computer is Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, with all current MS
updates in place.

Thanks for any information

Dave
