Dave,
Normally, that user is used by Internet Information Server as the account
that "runs" websites. If you have any websites that you host that use .Net
(or were built using any Microsoft editor) then it uses that account to
"run" the scripting. The theory is that it has less access than your
regular login.
If you aren't hosting a website, go to Services and turn off IIS service,
then disable that account.
If you ARE hosting a website, then you probably need it - but make sure you
read up and keep it as locked down as possible - warning - there are whole
books about website security - and they don't cover 1/2 of it.
73,
Jay

Subject: [Ham-Computers] ASP.NET - user account on my PC?????
Just looked at the user accounts on my computer, and see that in
addition to my Administrator account, there is a user identified as
"ASP.NET" and listed as "Machine A...'s account".
I sure didn't add this user to my machine (intentionally), and a Google
of ASP.NET tells me it's something to do with Microsoft.
Can anyone tell me if this in on the level and normal, or have I been
hacked somehow?
The computer is Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, with all current MS
updates in place.
Thanks for any information
Dave
