[Ham-Computers] Excel 2003 and 2007

Some Excel 2007 files have been received.  I use Excel 2003.  When I attempt to open the files that were created on 2007, a window pops up saying that I have to add about 25 MB of what must be conversion files in order to read the 2007 material.

Does anyone know whether this means that significant changes were made in Excel 2007 from Excel 2003?

If so, does that apply for Word, Access, and Power Point?

Does anyone have any experience that shows that adding this additional code in any way degrades 2003?
