: 1. Can you take the HDD from the machine you are trying to upgrade and
: install it as a slave in your "mainframe"? If so, then do it and format
the
: drive and copy system files to it.
A good idea. I have no idea what type of HDD is in this laptop, perhaps one
with a compact form factor. I have done what you describe with other
computers.
: 2. What brand of HDD is it? I have a lot of original HDD installation
disks
: and you can format the drive for any op system using the original HDD
disk.
Don't know, haven't had to open it, want to avoid it as it isn't my
computer.
: 3. Only one bay in computer? If you can use either a floppy or a HDD, why
: not just connect both at the same time (Even though they are not
"installed"
: in the machine).
It is a large slot with a proprietary connector about 5" inside the
computer. Can only fit one drive in the hole at the same time. It's a
laptop, no ribbon cable to bring out of the case.
I purchased a brand new full verison of Windows 95 for 99 cents today, I
will try to install that first, that should give me the entire drive to play
with, then should recognize the CD ROM when I put it in the slot, wheras I
can install 98 SE.
Will let everyone know how it goes.
