So far the computer has not recognized any CD drivers, despite several being
there and the proper lines in autoexec.bat, whether a full install, partial
install or boot disk, no joy. Also note that despite booting with a disk, I
must turn the computer off entirely, remove the FDD, add a CD ROM to the FDD
bay, then turn it on, which means no boot disk... I copied the boot files
to a CD, since one of the BIOS startup choices was CD ROM, the computer
halted, showed a picture of a FDD with a disk being inserted and told me to
press F1 at which point it said "Non System Disk".

Make a startup floppy from the system you plan on using. You will then be
able to install a batch file that will run your CD drivers on boot-up.

I see no reason to install a whole operating syatem just to get CD support.
