I *think* I remember booting to a floppy w/ cd drivers, fdisking if
necessary, then starting off the install.  I don't think it was bootable.

I hope you're well-protected if these machines touch the net.  Trust me
- XP isn't that bad (and I hate Windows).

If all else fails, you can always try linux.  Some distributions have
live cd's that will let you boot into RAM and not disturb the HD.  This
will tell you if it will work on your system before you install.
