Hi Ken,
You will do just fine my friend. Just be sure to be well grounded when you
open the computer case, as static electricity can do bad things to
computers.
Most of the drives these days are multiple function and read/write both a CD
and a DVD. The one in this Compaq model 5100 EVO business system will read
and write either a CD or a DVD, but will also write two layers on the DVD.
The commercial movie people use this to get a movie to long to fit on a
single DVD to fit by putting one layer on top of the other.
I bought some special multiple layer DVD blank discs Ken, got a sticker
shock reaction and decided I would rather buy regular DVD discs instead!
Now in some applications it may be very beneficial to store twice the data,
or about 7 GHZ, on one DVD, but considering the cost per multiple layer DVD
media for myself, I decided to not do it.
Isn't it fascinating, how twenty years ago almost none of us owned a
computer? In fact, most of us had absolutely no interest in owning one! Now
we wonder how we got by without one and what we would do if we did not have
one! Well Ken, we got by before just fine and if we had to do it, I am sure
that all of us could do it again too.
There is something unsettling in my soul when I walk into my bank and
everybody is standing around smiling, but doing absolutely nothing! The main
computers downtown are not working, so all the branch banks with terminals
are dead in the money bag! Nobody can do anything, as without their
computers they can not make deposits, cash checks, make withdrawals, use
plastic cards, sell Savings Bonds, open a loan account, let you into your
safety deposit box etc. Now why don't they just put a sign on the front
door: "Sorry! No Cash! Computer Crashed!"
Let me know when you have your computer up and humming happily Ken and I
will make you a copy of my NASA and Space Weather Astronomy files.
Meanwhile OM, get yourself back on the air and check into the Sunday HHI 20
meter Net! Or the Wednesday evening Global Glow Roundtable! We miss you Ken!
Sunday at 1:15 PM EST, (1815 UTC), on 14.293 MHZ usb +/- However, this
Sunday daylight savings time kicks in, so the Net will start at 1:15 PM EDT,
1715 UTC. Hear you then my friend.
