Jerry,
For what it is worth:
Transfering audio from a cassette tape to a CD creates a whole host of
issues unique unto itself. There is something on the cassette tape that the
CDR 'hears' and does not like. It often causes audio distortion which may
suddenly start at any time for no apparent reason. Instead of literal
distortion, it may also be in the form of background static.
I have noticed that the older the cassette tape, regardless of care and
storage, the greater the likelyhood of problems. Although the originaly
quality of the tape, as well as how it was stored, can be factors, they do
not seem to be the cause of this.
I use only high end standalone hardware to replicate and remaster music, so
you may experience different circumstances using a computer HD and software
to make a CD from a cassette! Just be sure to listen to your Master "before"
you burn it to a CD!
