so we know there's sound.
Check your mixer.  Double click on the speaker icon in the taskbar 
(bottom right).  Make sure you have the sliders above zero and that you 
don't have anything muted or deselected.

it's possible you don't have the correct fader up or input selected.

is it plugged into the line input?
are you using any adapters?
