[Ham-Computers] "lexplore"????

Hi again Robert,

Don't spend a lot of time trying to give me what I need! Guess I can't explain it plainly enough but my knowledge of confusers is
limited even though I have one for quite some time. As the Englishman would say, "They are just not my cup of tea !".
I'll try once again but if not clear, don't lose any time on it, just ignore!

This Dell came with Windows ME which has become corrupted. I installed Windows 2000. I wanted to transfer necessary files
and whatever else is needed to make Win2000 operational.
I can't record anything as both the DVD and 3 1/2 floppy failed in that use. They both read back but no record.

If I get my ISP to change me over the Win2000, then will WinME be still available to get files from?

Robert, if this is a hopeless thing for me, just let it go! I will try to get a friend to come and straighten out this mess for me.
Maybe if I offer him a days wages (If I can afford It) maybe I can entice him to take the task! He lives 40 miles from me.
Take care,

Ken N5CM

  Ken,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I know nothing about ME. But don't think I understand what you mean by "copy from ME" to 2000. The only things on the drive related directly to ME and not to 2000 should be ME itself. And I don't know why you would want any of it copied forward. I don't know how many drives you have available but form all you've said I think the smart thing to do would be to copy everything on the existing C drive that is not part of either ME or 2000 to a second drive. Then do a "from scratch" installation of 2000 on that drive, including reformatting or partitioning the drive. Then install your security software and go through the entire updating process for 2000. Then reinstall all the other software. Finally copy whatever you need from the backup drive.
