[Ham-Computers] Registry cleaning

One of the lead analysts at PC Magazine recently told me that they stopped recommending registry fix/clean products some years ago because they could not measure any appreciable performance benefit, and there was always a possibility such a program might "clean" something that should be left alone.

Several years ago I loaded a registry cleaning product into whatever computer I was using at that time.  It found 7,340 errors, but did not appear to me to work the least bit better after the "clean."

Please throw in your two cents worth if you care to do so.

Has anyone used Registry Mechanic published by PC Tools in Australia?  PCT may be more famous for Spyware Doctor.  So far I can't find any review comparing it to another like product.

Has anyone used or had any experience RegCure published in Canada?
