there are a bunch of browsers available.  I use two: Firefox and Opera.
Firefox is a great IE replacement.  It does tabbed browsing, is
incredibly customizable, and at least temporarily is much safer than IE
(the swiss cheese of browsers).  The add-ons for it are legion.

My favorite is Opera, which is lightning fast.  It's not bogged down by
bloat.  The latest version seems even faster.

If you check out others, beware that some are built on the IE core,
which actually installs parts of IE.  It should say so in the blurb.

Firefox and IE are also free and available on multiple platforms (I use
both on XP and linux).

Mozilla (Firefox) also makes Thunderbird, a great free email program.
Opera has email built-in.
