Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the good advice! I am paraplegic so unable to "manhandle" the
Dell Dimension 4100 computer.
Buying a new unit will probably be the best thing to do and I will see if my
son can pick one up for me
and swap out the defective one.
Sure appreciate the good help available here on the lists!

Definitely not worth repairing unless you have some "attachment" or critical
need for that particular drive.  Average "component level" labor rates are
$80 - $120 and a new drive will cost betwen $25 and $75 at Newegg.
Same with the floppy drive...costs about $7 for an internal replacement, $20
for a USB version.
