anything with .htm or .html is in web page format (HTML).  Unfortunately
too many people use html mail.  Fortunately it also gets transmitted
with plain text, which is how your software can read it.

it comes as part of the mail or some sort of signature.  Unless he
specifies so, it's not important.  Just make sure your virus scanner is
up to date.
