I have used Thunderbird for as long as it has been offered.
It is free software and has a decent spam blocker. Its
blocker becomes 'educated' to recognize spam as you identify
email as being spam. Once 'educated' the software
automatically moves emails suspected of being spam to a
folder that you define. You can review the titles of the
folder containing spam to make sure that it really is spam
before you delete it. This review looks at subject and
sender information without opening the email.
Since using Thunderbird I have not received any spam in my
inbox that I can remember. Spam ends up in the junk folder
and is later deleted without opening. That 'without opening
' is important. Spamers can tell if you open their email.
Such opening confirms that they can communicate with you and
you can then expect lots more spam.
