[Ham-Computers] CAT Serial port info

Hi All,

Earlier I posted want for a PCI serial card. Since I REALLY wanted to get
this Icom receiver interfaced to the computer, and the 'project' had been
postponed long enough, I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet, and try
one of the USB-Serial Port adapter cables. Many reports that I'd seen
indicated that NOT ALL of these adapters were created equal (different chip
sets) and that some actually give a BSOD (blue screen of death) with certain
radio controllers.

Since I'd only heard good things about the Belkin model (certainly not the
cheapest), I decided to give it a try. Besides, I could buy it at the local
Staples and if it didn't work, take it back! I'm happy to report that it
installed well with the included CD, and then I went into the device manager
and set it up as com 4 at 19200 bd to match the "default" speed of the
controller software I'm using.

Upon connecting the Icom R-75 receiver, turning it on, and then starting
the controller (RCS in the SWLog program) the system came up flawlessly and
functioned as it should, giving me full CAT control of all the R-75
functions.

Time will tell, but I think that the system is going to work well. Of
course I have to use different control programs to operate the two receivers
(TenTec RX-320 and Icom R-75), or at least change the com port, but that
isn't any problem.
