Loren,
Since the ticker works fine with Mozilla, then it sounds like the applet
was written using Sun Java standards. If you open the Sun Java control
panel, make sure Java is still "integrated" into IE by making sure the
tick-mark for the IE plug-in is checked. If the Java plug-in for IE
isn't installed, then IE will use MSVM rather than Sun's JVM. If the
tick-mark *is* checked, try unchecking it, applying the change, then
re-checking it. This will re-install the plug-in and re-register it at
the top of IE's plug-in "stack". Sometimes, there are plug-in conflicts
and moving a plug-in to the top resolves issues.
Another thought is that the ticker was updated using a newer version of
the Sun Java Development Kit (SDK). At work, we have two versions of
Sun Java installed on all workstations as some of the applets were
developed a while ago and will only work with the older version (1.3) of
Java. This seems unlikely in your case as the applet is working in
Mozilla. Check to see if you have multiple versions of Java installed.
If so, try un-installing all of them and just installing the latest
version. I would suggest the "latest" release of Java 1.4 (JRE
1.4.2_10) rather than 1.5 as most applets are based on 1.4 (1.5 is a
relatively recent release).
Along the same lines, try un-installing Java and re-installing it
(making sure the plug-in is enabled in IE).
And, last but not least, try switching to Firefox - much safer than IE
(although not perfect).

Subject: [Ham-Computers] IE 6 Problem
I have a problem that I wonder if anyone knows what could have changed.
I have a site I go to where I trade stocks. This site has a real time
streamer for stock prices.
When you go to the site and launch the streamer it runs a java script
that starts an applet which loads and then displays the real time list
with data. This used to work but now when the launch window opens it has
a box with an x in it where the launch info should appear and does not
launch.
This streamer works fine with Mozilla with the proper java program
running. What could have changed? Any ideas? Corrupt file?
I am running WIN98SE
