Don't know anything about Puppy Linux.
Why don't you give Ubuntu a try, you can download it here
http://www.ubuntu.com/download .
You then need to check out this guide http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper .
You should also check out this page and download Automatix so you can
download WINE and be able to run Windows programs on Ubuntu,
http://www.getautomatix.com/ .
Automatix also installs other popular programs and the codex for
multimedia, like watching dvds and internet streams.

If Puppy Linux is using KDE and you prefer that you can get to Kubuntu
from the Ubuntu home page here, http://www.ubuntu.com .
You can also get CD's of Kubuntu, Edubuntu and Ubuntu free of charge, no
shipping charges either.
Just goto the respective home pages of each distro and then click on
Shipit, your login and password will work with all 3 once setup on one
of them.

If you need and help feel free to email me and I can walk you through
anything.
Or you can also message me on Yahoo at kc2cbd at yahoo.com
