I do not recall that Win98A was out long enough for anyone
to write code that was uniquely dependent upon it.
Also, to their credit M$ generally made new versions
significantly consistent, unlike Apple, so that they
were backwards compatible for most apps. (Win2000 was
an exception.)
I would be shocked to hear that anything that ran under
the defective Win98A would not run under Win98B/SE. They
are not that different.
Also, if he gets stability and functionality the upgrade
is worthwhile.
Changing to Win2000 or XP is much more radical and not
relevant to the need.
