[Ham-Computers] Web Site Construction For Dummies?

Many of the big-time ISP's provide built-in web building tools at no extra
charge which make it fairly easy for a beginner to build and manage a simple
website. Yahoo is a good example. Of course, if your ISP is
www.billybobsgarage.com or some such, then such helpful tools will not be
included in your basic service. I've found Yahoo's service works quite well
for beginners. I own two web development software packages (Microsoft
FrontPage and Namo WebEditor), and although they are very flexible and
capable they also have some serious quirks, plus a learning curve which
might not be appropriate for a beginner. There may be good packages out
there a beginner can buy, but if the ISP provides a good useable set of web
building tools for the beginner at no charge, why bother? Besides, all
software houses employ the version upgrade come-on game, and that $39
package can easily cost you well over $100 after a year or two of version
"upgrades". Big ISP's keep their web tools constantly up to date
automatically at no direct cost to the user.

Hi All,

There seems to be a book or program designed for most other areas of
computer
use, what about a reasonably simple and still efficient software program to
buil
dyour own web site?

No, the blind dude is not going to attempt this. But I have a friend who is
what
I consider marginally computer literate who wants to build his own web site.
I
would appreciate suggestions from those on this list who have used various
programs to build their web site with, no matter if they are commercial
programs, FreeWare orShareWare with a donation.

What say ye?

Thank you for helping my friend and keeping me out of this web!
