that might be a function of web browsing, moreso than OS.
I don't know how much browsing you do and with what browser, but as time
marched on, browsers got more `features,' like javascript. Since it
allows so much control, it can be used for nefarious purposes.
Same thing with HTML mail.... when we used text email, the virus
situation was very different. Because everyone insisted on pretty
pictures and blinky graphics, huge holes opened up and we ended up with
tons of viruses. Now we can get a virus by simply previewing or opening
up an email - ain't life grand?
