If I'm thinking clearly (which doesn't happen often...), the MS malware
removal tool in question just runs a quick scan of your system for a limited
number of malware apps that affect MS based products. Even if you download
an run it, it will be offered to you again the next time you run Windows
Update. So, in essense, each time you run Windows Update, it will offer
this tool to scan your system for specific types of malware. It is *NOT* a
replacement for anti-virus or other anti-spyware apps (such as Spybot,
AdAware, SpySweeper, Pest Patrol, or even Microsoft's own anti-spyware app).

Has anyone yet downloaded and run this? All of my machines run Windows
Update. The first one told me about this yesterday. The last one tonight.
Which
I thought in itself was passing strange. In the blurb, they even say that
it
doesn't replace anti-virus software and that you should still run that.
Duh.
If that's the case, what does it replace? I already run several versions of

spy and ad ware fairly frequently.
