Jay, You don't understand the issue.
The disks are not the problem, but the key in combination with code
activation.
Nice story about re-installing it, but in the first part I cannot read if
you activate it (after the first instalation)
And I cannot read if you took another type of motherboard.

I think the EULA from the company is very clear.

sorry for Gene, I'm not attacking him, but you cannot buy software and sell
it just like a car
(even the disk are orginal)
That's why (in my opinion) the disks are useless. If you can sell them, DO
IT !!
But if it's not working on another PC, Don't blame me.
(please don't feel attacked !)

and for Jay:
I have never send you one Disk, I don't even know You. So you have got
nothing from a guy like me!

As a MS System developer/engeneer (and beta tester for Microsoft Windows
2003) I got my software direct from MS.
Even the newest stuff by a company Software account.
I don't have to beg for it.

And this is all I want to say about this subject.

Marcel

Marcel,

Like I said before. If it's not transferable, send your spares to me -
I've done it before - all you do is call M$ and tell them you built a
new PC after the motherboard blew on the old one, and they give you a
code to get it to "take" the registration. It's the same process you go
through if you make enough hardware changes that your OS doesn't create
the same hash code. The only time they'll trip you up is if you do it
too many times with the same serial number.

I can understand if YOU wouldn't want to go through the hassle. But I
build computers (as another hobby) and have several for different
purposes in the shack, plus the office, plus one for each kid.....
Several are still on various Win9x version. If you want to scrap your
"spare" XP disks, I'll take them.

Gene,
Sorry for the flip remarks on yours - I realize that you're trying to
SELL your spares - I'd buy them, except that I can't justify $45 per
copy. Especially since I frequently get them free from people like
Marcel, hi, hi.

Sorry Gene, direct from www.microsoft.com:

Subject Licence, XP, Product activation.
<quote>
So it's anonymous, but you are still requiring information about the
make and model of my PC. To ensure the end user's privacy, Microsoft
uses a one-way mathematical algorithm to create the hardware hash used
by Product Activation to create the Installation ID. Once created, the
hash information cannot be calculated back to its original values.
Hardware information is sent through the algorithm in the software on
the PC-not at Microsoft-to create the hash. The raw hardware information
is not known or sent to Microsoft. Ensuring end user privacy is a No. 1
design goal for Microsoft with Product Activation. </quote>

You cannot resell software you used.
the Quote sais that they are making a hardware fingerprint, so the can
regonize if the key is still on te same PC. (i wont get into the
discussion with upgrading your hardware, i will redirect you to the site
from
microsoft.)

in he discloser sais als somtehing about who gets te key, who is the
owner of teh software and reselling.

Marcel:
I kindly direct you to the response that Aaron Hsu offered on this
reflector. I did verify the information that Aaron gave me with
Microsoft and they indeed, confered with Aaron that you can reinstall
the software on another computer. Please, unless you are sure of your
answer, do not post negative responses to the reflector. I respect your
right to your opinion and your right to say it, however, please think
before you make such a post because it could have an adverse effect on
someone's effort to sell legimate software.
