[Ham-Computers] Access question

Had the same problem with my 12-year old grandson last year, who was on a
networked machine. Bought 'Net Nanny' software (do a Google), and cured the
problem instantly. No need to mess with your computer or router (or other
computers on the network), just install it on his machine only with your
personal password as the control authority. No way around it on reboot or
other tricks. You can give him specific time slots for each day of the week,
or allocate him x number of hours per week so when his "bank" of hours is
burned up, the machine is locked out of the internet. Game over. It worked
like a champ for me. :-)

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Access question

I have a slight poroblem that perhaps others might have and that is to
restrict internet access to my young stepson. (He stays up half the night
playing games and then is usually late for work because he can not wake up
in time!)

I am using WIN XP PRO on my computer (The "server"), high speed cable modem
and a Linksys BEFSX41 cable router and a Netgear 8 port hub.

He has WIN ME on his.

I can limit his access with the Linksys router by using his computers IP
address and setting the time(s) in the Linksys router setup.

HOWEVER, he has a XBOX and removes the CAT5 cable from his computer and
plugs it into the XBOX. Here in lies the problem: how do I know what 'IP'
address the XBOX uses?

I am unable to just shut off the power to the cable modem because he will
sneak into my shack and turn it back on, so I must resort to limiting his
access; the Linksys router can be protected with a password, so he can not
go into the setup and change anything.

I would really appreciate any help that the list members might provide.

Gene, WØQFC
