I don't have the motherboard in question, but try setting the first boot
device to "SCSI".

I'm not happy with the way BIOS developers describe the boot drive
options in "Boot order". The "SCSI" option should really be called
"Add-on Adapter" or something else similar. Brand name "business"
systems (such as HP/Compaq and Dell) are much better in this regard.

Another Boot Order pet peeve I have is support for bootable flash keys.
Some brand name systems don't care if the key is formatted as an
emulated partitioned hard disk or as an extended size floppy disk.
"Generic" system BIOS' (Award/AMI/Phoenix) want to you specify the exact
type of format the key is in before it will boot from the key. Funny
thing is, the "Brand name" and "Generic" BIOS' are all primarily
developed by Award/AMI/Phoenix.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Boot order issue with PROMISE RAID array and
newVIA HD

ASUS A8V-Deluxe MB
XP Pro SP2
RAID 1 array (SATA) on PROMISE controller

I have a working system configured as described above. I want to add a
single (non-RAID) SATA HD on the VIA controller. When I install the new
SATA drive, it is recognized in BIOS. The computer wants to boot from
the new drive-not the RAID array. In BIOS, under BOOT ORDER, the PROMISE
array is not displayed as an option. The VIA controller is the only HD
available. I want it to boot from the PROMISE RAID array and just add
the extra HD on the VIA controller.

Any ideas?

Thank you.
