[Ham-Computers] FW: Windows 3.95?

I found a few references to Windows 3.95. Basically, it comes down to what
program you used to display the Windows version. 16-bit apps and 32-bit
apps will return different version numbers due to programming constraints.

I'm not familiar with "winver", the app you mentioned, but it's probably a
16-bit app. The easiest way to find out what version of Windows is running
is to do a "ver" command from the command prompt. Win95 should come out as
"4.00.950" with an "a", "b", or "c" appended for the three Win95 revisions.

Here's a clip from a webpage I found via Google...

--------------------
As a useful example of this technique, let's take a look at how to obtain
the DOS and Windows' version number. For dissecting the info returned by
GetVersion you can use this variant record:

  *** sample code clipped ***

The GetVersion API returns 3.1 for Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 and Windows NT (if called from a 16-bits Windows
application), 3.95 for Windows 95 (when called from a 16-bits Windows
applications), and 4.0 for Win32 applications (on Win95 or NT).
--------------------

Hope that clarify's things!

  - Aaron, NN6O

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Windows 3.95?

I recently bought an old 486 (No laughs please hi hi) only because it works,

and has a fairly new CD-ROM in it.

I slaved it to run a virus check on it. (Clean) When I ran winver for the
heck of it, it said "Windows 3.95" When did this come out? Were their other
vesions of Windows between 3.11 & 95a?
