I received the SP2 CD from MS last Thursday. I tried to install SP2 and
the computer hung up after about half way thru. Tried it a second time with
the same results. The next morning with the computer apparently working, I
needed to look up a file. I clicked on start/search, guess what no search
window. OK, I thought a reboot would clear up the problem and did so. Now I
have nothing. No keyboard (only beeps when a key is pressed), no mouse and
have a blinking dot in the top left hand corner of the computer. I did a
restore with the factory restore disks. After running the disk, the computer
gave me the message: restore installed, remove disk and hit enter. All that
happens is a flash of the big e (e-machine computer) and then the blinking
dot on the monitor.
I have contacted MS and e-machines. All the suggestions evolve the use
of the keyboard (which I don't have) or reinstall XP (which doesn't work).
BTW, I can't get safe mode to come up by pressing F8 when the computer is
started. Anyone have any ideas as to what may have happen and what can be
done to get my computer back up?
The computer is an e-machine home XP, 2.7, 80HD, 756 RAM. The computer
was working perfectly until I tried to install service pac 2. Hind sight
being 20/20, I would not have attempted to install SP2.
