Are you using XP, and have you upgraded with SP2?

As automatically displaying images is a security loophole that was
automatically 'on', has it been changed to auto 'off'.

Advice, anyway, would be to use Mozilla/Opera/Mozilla Firefox rather
than IE for security reasons.
