[Ham-Computers] Expanding the LAN

I have a LAN set up to link the living room to the den so I can use one 
cable modem to the outside world.  

I want to expand to include the ham shack.

I have in my possession a switch to switch a mouse, monitor, and 
keyboard.  I am thinking of running the cabling to set up a control 
station in the ham shack instead of extending the LAN.

Advantage:  When I upgrade, its only one computer instead of two

Disadvantage: more cabling.

Question:  Can you run a computer monitor, mouse and keyboard on 30' cables?
