The problem is not XP but the file system used. If your drive is
partitioned for FAT32, there's no problem, you canpartition as part of a
standard Linux install.

If it's NTFS, then you'll need to partition using a later version of
Partition Magic (I think version 7 can handle NTFS).

Alternatively, get a cheap hard drive and install Linux on that, until
you decide to get rid of XP.<G>

BTW there aren't many apps that aren't available for Windows that either
a) can't be run under Linux using WINE, or b) have a Linux equivalent
e.g. for amateur radio software have a look at the Hamsoft site at
http://radio.linux.org.au/
