I really appreciate the tip and I will give fluxbox a try. I just
received the parts I need to resurrect a P3 450 mHz motherboard that has
been gathering dust. This will become the main computer in the ham
shack. I got a good tight metal case, a fast Sony CD-RW, 512 meg of RAM
and a 120 gig hard drive. I'm sure it won't take long before I'm asking
myself why I didn't also buy a new motherboard and processor made in
this century. :-) I only wish I could afford a nice flat panel display
to hold down on the RFI, but that is a discussion for another thread.

Now that I have a room of my own dedicated to ham radio and computers I
hope to have a number systems in here several running as servers. Most
of them will not need to be cutting edge power houses. I hope to keep
my HF log files and audio recorded from both ham rigs and scanners as
MP3 files. And of course there are the digital modes to work with. Our
county is working on incorporating packet into their emergency response
communications system and I would like to be set up for that. I hear a
lot of talk about PSK31 but have never tried it. Lot of new things to
learn.

I have set up a web page on QSL.net (http://www.qsl.net/wa3fkg ) but I'm
afraid it is VERY primitive. Web development is another area that I
would really like to get deeper into. I have been learning Dreamweaver,
I refuse to get involved with Microsoft Front Page, and have started to
think about what I will use under Linux to take its place. I don't know
that there is the equivalent software out there in open source. I know
that you can do everything you want or need with just a text editor but
why quill pen when you have a work processor available. Have never
heard of "screem". Exactly what is it and how do you like it?
