Open Office will read/write to MS formats. Available for Windows as well
if you want to check it out first.

Email files might be more difficult, but address book can be imported to
(e.g.) Evolution.

You'll get change out of a cent - they're all part of a standard
distribution, or can be downloaded for free (e.g. logging programs from
linux radio & utilities page at http://radio.linux.org.au/ - there's
about 20 entries for logging there)

Advise you use a different browser to IE on Windows, and a different
email program as well, for security reasons.
